Wow! It’s March already and truly camp is around the corner. Registration is open and we’re anticipating a summer full of happy campers!
During the month of February, I repeatedly got out my heart shaped angel food cake pan because I wanted to add a special touch to my celebration opportunities. Every single time I poured the batter into that pan, it resulted in a heart-shaped cake. It’s awesome!
I got to thinking about the different ways we can pour into ourselves and our children to insure a heart shaped like God. Of course, camp always comes to mind.
When I was a young teen, I accepted the call (actually my parents insisted I go, but that’s another story) to come to camp. I loved camp from the beginning and, from that very first summer, camp has poured into me in ways I never could have imagined.
I have songs on repeat in my head that were sung over and over around a roaring campfire. The words to those songs fill my heart and helps me battle Satan when he knocks at the door. Songs like, “I know the Lord will find a way for me,” and “As the deer pants for the water, so my souls longs after you.” Also, the words spoken by great men and women of faith who have volunteered to teach a bible class, like Charlie Murray, Buddy Barwick, Tricia Watkins, Bell Smith, Aton Howard, LinDee Loveland, Kim and Jeremy Shackelford and many more, are permanently implanted in my heart, adding to my spiritual arsenal and giving me strength and boldness. And the images of camp, like the beauty of the lake and the tall trees that line my way to the girl’s village serve to remind me that God loves me enough to provide beautiful things for me to feast on.
Yes, camp is definitely one of the things that continues to pour into me and others–young and old—to help us live life on the fire for God. We can’t wait to see what God does in the hearts of our campers this summer!
Our summer staff is hired and we’re hard at work planning every detail of our summer program. Please keep the prayers going for our staff and camper. We want this to the BEST. YEAR. EVER.
Have a great Marc and we’ll see you soon.
