Big Announcement September 15, 2018
Good day and welcome to fall!
This is Chrys Howard, representing the board of directors at Camp Ch-Yo-Ca. Many of you might not know that camp operates with a very active and intentional board of directors. I serve on this board as well as Korie and Willie Robertson, Howard Karbo, Arlene Mayes and Tommy Barker.
We are honored to be a part of camp and do our best to move it forward as each year passes. In the past ten years, camp has grown substantially. We have improved the camp grounds by adding a two lane road to the entrance, a pavilion area over the existing tennis court, two heated and cooled lodges, a newly remodeled pool, better trail lighting, lighting to the lake, an office area, and a new and improved craft shed. All of these updates are because of donations from people who love camp and want to see it succeed.
Like all non-profits, camp cannot exist without donors. The camp fees simply take care of your child attending camp. It does not cover camp improvements that are necessary for your camper to have a fun and safe environment where growing closer to God and each other is the main focus. While this letter is not a fund-raiser letter, there are continuous plans to enhance the camp experience for our kids and would love for you to partner with us in helping to make those a reality. You can find out more on our website campchyoca.com or if you’d like for one of us to give you a call to discuss how you can help, you can email your name and number to info@campchyoca and we’ll give you a call.
Now on to the reason for this letter. We have a big announcement! We are so happy to announce that John Luke Robertson has joined our camp family as the new executive director. He has been studying Camp, Outdoor and Adventure Leadership at Liberty University for the past four years giving him the skills necessary to take camp into the future. Beyond that, John Luke spent the past two summers working at camp applying the things he was learning at school in a real-life situation. It is true that John Luke grew up at camp and his family has always been connected to camp, but no one ever pressed John Luke to follow our camp dreams. This was his desire and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Please know that none of us are going anywhere! LinDee, Missy, Karen, Carrie, and I will continue in the roles we’ve all played at camp. David will take a more limited role as his role at our local church is more demanding of his time, but he will still pop in from time to time to check on us. We love camp and look forward to working with John Luke and, together, serving our campers, giving them the same camp experience we all loved as we were growing up.
Please join us as we welcome John Luke to Camp Ch-Yo-Ca. He will send a follow up letter soon so you can get to know him better. In the meantime, camp planning is underway!! Start making plans NOW for your camper. You might want to have a camp jar at your house to save money for camp or consider asking grandparents to give camp as a birthday or Christmas gift. Trust me, grandparents love to help their grandkids with any activity that brings them closer to God.
Registration for former campers will open tomorrow. This is earlier than usual so be on the lookout for an email concerning registration.
Love you all and look forward to seeing you next summer.
